Podiatrists are highly skilled health professionals trained to deal with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of medical and surgical conditions of the feet and lower limbs.
Podiatrists have completed a Bachelor of Podiatry or higher degree and are continually upgrading their skills and knowledge through further education and training. Regular visits to your podiatrist can help prevent foot problems, alleviate pain, and help keep you on your feet and mobile.
Footcare offers a scientific approach to the diagnosis and treatment of foot problems encountered in daily activities and sports. Pain in the foot, leg, knee, hip or lower back may be the result of foot abnormality.
Any sport which involves running and jumping, places higher demands on your body than normal daily activities. Malfunction in your feet and legs can give rise to injuries when you participate in these sporting activities or certain occupations.
Children's feet are of special concern to our podiatrists. Early intervention may help prevent inherited and developmental abnormalities causing more serious problems in later life. In-toed or out-toed gait, knock knees or bow legs, constant tripping, excessive shoe wear and flat feet need to be evaluated at an early age.

At Footcare Associates, our services include:
General Footcare - treatment of skin lesions (including corns, calluses, plantar warts and blisters) and nail deformities.
Video Analysis of walking and running - The first step in the biomechanical process is a detailed history and postural examination. A more thorough understanding of the nature and cause of your problem is gained through physical examination, gait analysis (walking on a treadmill), footwear evaluation and review of your injury history.
After the initial assessment, your podiatrist will suggest a treatment program which may include a full assessment and plaster casting to make orthoses, a stretching and strengthening program, and shoe advice
Biomechanical Assessment of the foot and lower limb - A series of measurements are taken of joint alignment and motion from the hip to the foot. Plaster moulds of the feet are then made to capture the contours and relationships of the bones and joints in their 'neutral' positions. The casts are then sent to an orthotic laboratory in Perth, Western Australia. It takes 2-3 weeks for the orthotic devices to return.
Orthotic Therapy - Prescription orthoses are designed to treat your particular biomechanical problems, improve your foot and leg function and help eliminate painful symptoms.
Children's Foot Screening - abnormal walking, excessive shoe wear and flat feet need to be checked at an early age. Don't dismiss your child's consistent complaints of aches as 'just growing pains'. The reason for persistent aches and cramps can sometimes be due to poor foot or leg posture..
Sports Shoe Evaluation - ensures that you are wearing the correct shoe for your individual requirements.
Our podiatrists work with medical specialists, general practitioners, physiotherapists, chiropractors and complementary therapists.
Referral to other health professionals may be necessary if complementary treatment is required.
If standing, walking or sporting activity causes you discomfort, the podiatrists at Footcare Associates will be able to advise you on the appropriate therapy.
